April 2020 Track of the Month

Picture

remembering lynn harrell, 1944-2020
tmf artistic advisory board member

Lynn Harrell was a supporter of and inspiration to TMF for many years. We will miss him. In a gesture typical of his vision for the power of music (as reported in the National Public Radio obituary) in 1994, Harrell performed Max Bruch's Kol Nidrei at the Vatican in a concert dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust — the Vatican's first-ever official commemoration of the genocide, and a performance that was broadcast around the world.
You are listening to his exquisite performance of the Chopin Nocturne No. 20 in C# minor (Opus Posthumous). Following Mr. Harrell's performance of the Shostakovitch Concerto No. 1 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he dedicated this encore as a tribute to the work of Terezin Music Foundation.
Listen here to more music in our Track of the Month Series.
